SEML Leaders Attend Kickoff for Updated Watershed Protection Plan
SEML President Cary Lewis, Board Member Debra Jenkins, and former SEML President Don Sanderson recently attended an engaging kickoff meeting for the updated Eagle Mountain Lake Watershed Protection Plan. The meeting was led by Katie Myers, TRWD’s Rural Programs Coordinator in the Watershed Protection Division, and highlighted comprehensive strategies to safeguard our vital water resources through collaboration with natural resource agencies, nonprofits, and municipal governments.
Building on successful watershed protection efforts initiated in 2008 by TRWD, the Texas Water Resources Institute, and local stakeholders, the updated plan underscores the critical role of Eagle Mountain Lake in north central Texas. This 860-square-mile subwatershed is a cornerstone of our community, providing essential water supply and recreational opportunities.
SEML values its strong partnership with TRWD in advancing watershed protection strategies. TRWD’s commitment to stakeholder engagement, community input, and proactive measures—such as nutrient management and sediment control—exemplifies their dedication to preserving Eagle Mountain Lake for future generations.
We are especially grateful for TRWD’s consistent focus on education and outreach, ensuring the community remains informed and engaged. Their collaborative approach, blending scientific expertise with local involvement, continues to protect the long-term health of Eagle Mountain Lake while fostering strong relationships with organizations like SEML.
